The most recent addition to the “Elder Scrolls” series is “Skyrim.” This game follows the adventures of the Dragonborn, the ultimate dragonslayer, who has returned to Skyrim. Along with the Dragonborn’s return, the long-thought-dead dragons, led by Alduin the World-Eater, are returning as well.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Skyrim is divided in the midst of a war between the Stormcloak Rebellion and the Imperial Legion. The Stormcloaks, led by Ulfric Stormcloak, believe that their ancient Nord way of life is in danger. The Imperials believe that Skyrim is property of the empire, and as such should follow all the empire’s rules and customs.
I have never been so addicted to a game in my life. The province of Skyrim contains vast expanses of grass plains, snowy mountains, and swamps. The land is divided into nine holds: Markarth, Solitude, Morthal, Dawnstar, Winterhold, Windhelm, Riften, Falkreath, and Whiterun. Each of these holds has its own unique terrain and attractions.
As a role-playing game, there are many options on how to customize your character; the species include Nords, Imperials, Dark Elves, High Elves, Orcs, Wood Elves, Bretons, Argonians, and Redguards.
Skyrim includes many joinable guilds, like the Dark Brotherhood (a league of assassins), the Companions (Skyrim’s warrior guild), and the Thieves Guild (a group of, well, thieves).
The game also includes a creative arsenal of Iron, Steel, Dwarven, Elven, Orcish, Glass, Ebony, Daedric (Demonic), and even Dragon weaponry and armor. The inventory of weaponry includes maces, warhammers, war axes, battle axes, swords, greatswords, bows and arrows, and shields. There is also a large selection of various magic staves and spells that can be learned and found.
The ensemble of enemies is also second to none. The foes include wolves, bandits, corrupted mages, sabre toothed cats, undead warriors, giants, dragon priests, and dragons. There are also tons of dungeons and tombs to explore; it is just an amazing game for everyone.
Overall, this game definitely takes the cake for best game of the year. There are just so much to do, so much to explore, so many weapons to use, and so many enemies to fight. I highly recommend this game to anyone seeking adventure and fun.
