RHS’ nationally acclaimed Transition Center orients new students to the school and community. With over 20 student facilitators, the center selects and recognizes a student facilitator’s efforts with a monthly award.
October’s Facilitator of the Month award goes to junior Cierra Hollington.
“I believe I was chosen facilitator because of how much time and dedication I put in. The job of a facilitator is to greet new students when they first come in, teach lessons and to be friendly,” she said.
She was selected by her peers who say Cierra is friendly and involved.
“She always donates her time, even when she’s busy,” junior Francis Penn said.
“The job of a facilitator is to greet new students when they first come in, teach lessons and to be friendly,” Hollington said. She greets new students “by introducing myself, giving them a handshake and sitting down and talking to them.”
Hollington’s decision to be a student facilitator came out of her personal experience. “As a military child, you move around a lot. This is the first school that I came to with this type of program and I had a really good experience coming here. The PTTs and the students were really nice, really helpful, so I just thought it was my turn to give back.”
Hollington said that the best thing about being a facilitator is when she helps students. “It’s when you help someone and they remember you. When they come to you and say ‘Oh I remember you, you helped me with this or you helped me with that.’ It feels really good.”
September’s Facilitator of the Month was sophomore Preston Olson who said, “I believe I was chosen because of my friendliness.”
