Students, under 18, looking to apply for a job need to get a work permit first.

If you’re 16 and 17, you may apply for a work permit online at www.hawaii.gov/labor/wsd/youth_instruct.shtml. Students can apply for the work permit before they get a job. However, if they’re 14 and 15 applying for a work permit, they must get a job before applying.

“When I got a work permit, I was 15. I went to the Discovery Center and asked for the papers. My mom took care of the rest. But when I got a job, my employer had to fill it out and turn it in. It’s really easy,”  Luis Ocasio, sophomore, said.

Students with any questions about work permits or careers should visit the Discovery Center in room 132.
