Career Technical Education teacher Kapuni Patcho works alongside his Papa La’au students on a designated Malama Aina day where his students are required to clean up the land. Together, they removed weeds, cut and trimmed grass, and cleared out dead leaves on a designated area on campus. Radford’s school publication The RamPage competed in the annual Hawaii High School Journalism Awards competition. Co-editor Alexa Conrad (11) was recognized as the staff’s Most Valuable Staffer. She, along with co-editor Adaliah Collins (11) represented the newspaper staff, leaving the competition with 14 awards. “It feels amazing to win something considering we only had six staff members to do it,” Collins said. Executive Chef Ryan Day from Palama Meat Company guides culinary students with preparing watermelon poke, lemongrass chicken, kalua kale soup, shrimp with broccoli leaves, fresh corn, and kabocha and cantaloupe cupcakes. Culinary students visited Aloun Farms on Sept. 10, and returned to school with donated produce from the farm. “We got to see how the fruits and vegetables get started, and to see the difference between store bought and farm fresh,” culinary teacher Jamie Kahalewai said.

Jordan Abanto’s (12) 16th Annual James Alegre Basketball Invitational Poster, Program Cover, and Volunteer T-Shirt entry in the 8th annual Pacific Printing Industries Association PrintROCKS Competition earned him first place. Last year, Abanto placed second with his student poster entry in the Best Print in the West category. “I believe he is the first high school student from Hawaii to win this award ever,“ Graphic Communications teacher Lane Yokoyama said.
