Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Animation Studio collaborated together to make a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie: Mutant Mayhem.” In June 2020, Nickelodeon Animation Studios began developing an animated TMNT film for the film studio corporation, Paramount Pictures. Jeff Rowe, writer for Gravity Falls, and co-director for The Mitchels-vs-the Machines, was chosen as the director for the film.
A new TMNT movie was released worldwide on August 2nd and made over 40 million dollars in the first five days of its release, making the fourth largest amount of money this year. But is this new movie really worth watching?
After a very long history of successful movies, comics, TV shows and video games, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise released their seventh movie this summer. The franchise started back in the eighties and has gained fans and influenced culture since. That makes this new movie a bit more important, because the franchise is depending on it to carry on the series.
The movie did start off with much of the backstory, and it did a great job doing it. It explained everything clearly. The character interaction was great, and it showed the differences in all of the turtles. For example, the turtles acted like kids and played around with each other with a bond that’s fit enough to call them brothers. Later it went more into depth on what problems the turtles faced. It presented a simple and clear solution that was easy to follow. It did feel almost rushed, however. The graphics were good and made the lights of New York show in a vibrant way. The antagonists, Superfly and the mutants were shown well, and the interaction between the protagonists and antagonists was well done. There were many themes, and some were not very distinct and it was hard to follow the main theme. Certain details seem excessive and unnecessary. It was a little hard to connect some characters like Splinter and April O’Neil to the original and previous movies. The connection to the lore and backstory of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is there, but a little inaccurate.
The bad guys in the movie were done very well. It shows their personality and how they play in the movie.
Many references for adults are present, with the action that kids and children would enjoy, the movie can be enjoyed by all ages.
In conclusion, this movie can be enjoyed by people who are new to TMNT, and some older fans can appreciate the connections with the backstory, and the adaptations for old characters.
