The movie was complimented as being a great homage to the theme park Haunted Mansion ride. Reviews praised actress Jamie Lee Curtis and actor Danny DeVito as “a scene stealer.”
Although there were some good reviews of the movie, other reviews on IMDb were more critical. Commenters disliked that they didn’t find the movie funny or scary. They thought that there was very little work done to it and there were some “extra-cheesy moments.” They thought it was a shame and it could have been better. Although the actors, scenes, and visuals were standouts, a common critique was that reviewers. weren’t invested at all in the storyline and just wanted the movie to be over.
In my personal opinion, even though this movie wasn’t anything like Freddie Murphy’s “Haunted Mansion,” I thought it was a good mix of humor and horror. Even if it wasn’t that scary, it had a good storyline and an amazing message about life and death. I have to say though it didn’t feel like a PG-13 film it felt more PG than anything. “Haunted Mansion” is a great film for family movie night or for people who aren’t big fans of scary movies.
