Blaine Watanabe, the new chemistry teacher and baseball coach, is new to Radford but has years of experience teaching at different schools such as Kahala Elementary, and Moanalua High School.
“I expect a lot from my students because I want them all to succeed,” he said, “I’m tough, but fair and care about my students. I see them in the same lens as I see my players. I’m a coach and tour guide.”
He expressed his passion for sports, reading, and spending time with his family.
“High school has its challenges, but those challenges are exciting and rewarding,” he explained. “I also believe that there is the most opportunity in high school to make a difference.”
He went more in-depth about his passion for baseball, “There’s a lot more to baseball than people realize. It’s a very analytical sport, and believe it or not, we use a lot of what we learn in other classes to execute skills on the baseball field. It’s also a great platform to teach life lessons.” After going over the basics, he has a few pieces of advice that he’d like the students at Radford to know. “Have the Disciple to do the right thing, Respect yourself by treating others how you want to be treated, It is your responsibility to always try your best. Never try to be someone other than yourself.”
