Rodney Barbra is a new science teacher at Radford, teaching Physics, Physical Science, AP Physics. Before coming to Radford, Barbra taught in the Philippines for 15 years as well as two years teaching Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) as well as Information and Communications Technology (ICT). His ambitious values in the classroom benefit many students and help them engage more with the world around them.
“I would describe myself as an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who is passionate about fostering a love for learning,” he stated. “I strive to create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and encouraged to express themselves.”
Before teaching at Radford, Barbra was a coach of many subjects.
“I’ve previously coached robotics, table tennis, badminton, and quiz bees. These experiences have been rewarding and allow me to connect with students in different ways!”
He enjoys watching movies, listening to music, videoke, and partaking in outdoor activities in his spare time.
He is very ambitious and has many motivating factors that he takes into consideration while teaching.
“I think teaching in high school can be incredibly rewarding! High school students are at a stage where they’re developing critical thinking skills and exploring their interests, which makes for engaging discussions and dynamic learning,” he said.
He expressed his passion for teaching and how he’d like to have an impact on student’s futures.
“It’s also a time when educators like me can make a significant impact on students’ futures. The challenge of adapting to diverse learning needs and encouraging independence is both fulfilling and motivating.”
He also has some advice he wants to leave for the students here at Radford,
“Embrace curiosity and never hesitate to ask questions. Learning is a journey, and being curious will open up new opportunities and deepen your understanding of the world.”
