Ananda Layne is a first-year teacher in the Radford Social Studies department, teaching World History and U.S. History.

“I hope to teach what has happened in the past and challenge students to always be curious and eager to learn,” Layne said.

Layne started as a substitute when she moved to Hawaii in July of last year. There was a position that had been open, which led her to become a teacher this year.

I enjoy getting to know and interacting with students,” Layne said.

Layne lived in Florida for the majority of her life, but she moved around a lot because her dad was in the military. She went to Northern Burlington High School in New Jersey, then she went to the University of Central Florida (UCF) with a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology, and she worked various jobs such as an office assistant in UCF’s housing department, a customer service representative for express scripts, a sales associate for Madrag and a crew member at Wendy’s.

“A unique fact about me is that I went to three elementary schools, in that time I was homeschooled for one year. I have also lived in Germany and Italy,” Layne said.

In her spare time, she loves to try new food, watch Netflix, read, crochet, and talk to friends and family.
